We write your flight specification first — lengths, lofts, lies, shaft model and raw length, tip work, grip build-up, headweight — then we build to that paper and measure the finished club to prove it landed. The sheet stays on file with your name on it.
When a set comes in for a check, we put a gauge on every club before anyone hits a ball. It is routine to find a 7-iron that reads 1.5° flat against its own stamp, a pitching wedge and a gap wedge separated by 9 yards while the next two sit 22 apart, and three grips of three different core sizes on clubs the golfer swears feel identical.
None of that is a swing fault. It is paperwork nobody ever produced. A golfer cannot fix a number they have never been shown, and a builder cannot hit a target that was never written. So we write it, publish it to the golfer, and hold ourselves to it.
That habit came out of the neighbourhood. Detroit Avenue is a street of machine shops and job printers, trades where the drawing comes before the part and the part gets inspected against the drawing. Golf equipment deserves the same order of operations.

Every club goes on the loft-lie machine, the scale, the swingweight gauge and the frequency analyser. You watch the readings go onto the sheet.
Strikes with your own clubs, captured on the monitor, so later comparisons run against your real starting point rather than a memory of it.
Length, then lie, then shaft weight, then head. Isolated changes are the only way to know which one actually moved the number.

Standard men's specs are drawn around a narrow band of height, hand size and clubhead speed. Plenty of golfers sit outside it.
Total weight, shaft weight and loft usually need revisiting before anything else does. Most of the gains here come from subtraction, not from a new head.
On loft and slower speedsA child's set is a moving target. We size to the wrist-to-floor measurement, not to a birth year, and re-check as they grow.
Building a first setGrip core, shaft weight and wedge gapping matter far more than the letter printed on the shaft band. We spec each of them separately.
